Condolence… Mr. Maclean Sosono

Our heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr. Maclean Sosono, the Board Chair of MANASO, who passed away on Sept 11th, 2013. We are extremely grateful to his contribution to MANASO. He was a visionary leader with exemplary morals and values. Not only us, but everyone associated with him, are at loss. While we are finding the exact words to describe his sudden demise,  we certainly know that he will be missed. We know that Mr. Sosono’s soul is at peace as he is resting with the lord. Thank you so much Mr. Maclean Sosono for what he has done to MANASO and the cause that he deeply believed in.

Annual General Meeting

Malawi Network of AIDS Service Organizations (MANASO) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2013 at Linde Motel in Mponela. Total of 53 organizations participated in the event. Linnah Matanya, Executive Director for Women for Fair Development (WOFAD) and a Board Member of MANASO, presided over the AGM. Mara Kumbweza Banda, Chairperson of National AIDS Commission and Vice-Chair of MANASO, was the Guest of Honour. The AGM was attended by stakeholders and members of MANASO.

The AGM began with Welcome Remarks & Introductions from Linnah followed by MANASO Overview from Lawrence Khonyongwa, Executive Director of MANASO. Aurelie Andriamialison, from UNAIDS, presented HIV and AIDS and Civil Society Situation – the Global Perspective. Mara Banda addressed the AGM with her Keynote Address.

On behalf of AGM Chair, Lawrence reviewed the minutes of the previous AGM and matters arising. He also presented the Chairperson’s Report. Francis Khunga, Acting Finance and Administration Officer of MANASO, presented Treasurer’s Report and Presentation of Audited Financial Statement.


The Proposed Amendment of the Constitution of MANASO was Adopted with Amendments. There was a short exercise on The Way Forward for MANASO. The Strategic Plan for MANASO 2013 – 2016 was presented to MANASO. The AGM concluded with closing remarks from Lawrence.

Results Dissemination Conference

MANASO participated in Malawi HIV and AIDS Capacity Building Project Results Dissemination Conference. The conference was held on 30th August, 2013 at Cresta Hotel, Lilongwe. The theme was “Demand-driven Local Capacity Development: Strengthening Organizational Capacity of Civil Society Organization.” This was organized by AIDSTAR-Two, an USAID-funded project. MANASO, in partnership with AIDSTAR, demonstrated Civil Society Mapping – database developed to maintain information about CSOs involved in HIV and AIDS activities.Image

Annual General Meeting

This year, MANASO is pleased to announce to its member organisations and international and local partners about the forthcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) that will be held on Friday, 6th of September 2013 at Linde Motel in Mponela.

The theme for the 2013 AGM will be “Strengthening Coordination and Networking”. This year’s event will gather our member organisations as well as international and local partners to showcase our work, discuss past activities as well as highlight our upcoming strategic goals and initiatives that have been identified as part of our 2013-2016 Strategic Plan. As we move forward to another exciting chapter, this year’s theme will also reaffirm MANASO’s vision and commitment to strengthening and improving coordination and networking of civil society response to HIV and AIDS in Malawi.
